I was born and raised on the Island of Bute and started playing football when I was around 5 years old, mainly because most of the neighbours my age who lived around me were boys. I attended the local football coaching clinic on the island and at the age of 13 joined my first club - Paisley Saints Girls FC, which at that time was the closest team to where I lived.
My dad used to take me on the boat and then drive me to training and matches a number of times each week, with evening training sessions generally involving an overnight stay on the ‘mainland’ before returning on the first boat next morning to be back in time for school. Looking back this was a huge commitment to make, both for me and for my dad, however it was something that I really enjoyed doing and was the start of the journey which has helped me get to where I am in my career right now.
At the age of 16 I signed with Glasgow City FC (where I won six league titles, three scottish cups and three league cups) before signing my first professional contract with the Swedish club, Vittsjo GIK, in January 2013. At International level I have represented Scotland at youth level before receiving my first cap for the ‘A’ Squad in March 2009. I have since gone on to represent my country 88 times.
I have always loved participating in sport and being active since I was a kid and football was the sport that I ended up growing attached to and enjoyed playing the most. For me, I enjoy the feel good factor of being fit and healthy and also love the social side to sport as I am always getting to meet new people.
Through sport I've also had the opportunity to travel the world and experience things that once upon a time I could only have dreamed of doing, such as being at the Olympic Games in London in 2012. I would say my three main qualities as an athlete are my work ethic, my technique and my awareness on the pitch.
